We have always put it that experience is the best teacher and there is even an African saying that “the darkest part of an elderly’s eye has seen better days and as such must not be restrained to throw some light on troubling issues”. am one of those opponents of the much hyped experience drive as a prerequisite to holding public offices.
The so called great men with such an experience so to say as they claim have brought unimaginable suffering, steered countries offcourse and left innovative minds in disarray.
We should not go far however to stress that point as there are damn good examples. The bush white house with all its experienced bigwigs has made the world more dangerous than it found it, through their tough aggressive, arrogant stances ,always threatening opposing views and a cold reception to tough talking challengers of American policy abroad, have managed to create more enemies for America and American sympathizers.
We have our own self proclaimed presidents in Africa way into their late eighties but have not done Africa any better see Kenyan elections www.kenyaelections.com
Despite his age and the much talked about experience politicking in Kenya Kibaki’s credibility has vanished in face of carnage thriving from the spoils of bogus election characterized with fraud.
Americans should listen but not only listen but listen very carefully to Obama’s message of change. We don’t have such an opportunity in many an African state given our fragile democracies and political chameleons who are gripping hard on state institutions, but America “the great country should move beyond racial hype, sexism and any other stigmatizing aspects and look at the genuine plea this gentleman is making”. Though detractors may have used race to pull obama down, it has been to their detriment.
Most Americans have proved more knowledgeable than jump on the straying soothsayer bandwagon of “lack of experience that Obama lacks”. The experience as small as it may be for him is just enough to make him credible to the remotest American voter and they have shown it in the Iowa elections, if the lead is extended to New Hampshire, one cant count Obama out as yet from the presidency. What a feat for a soft spoken self proclaimed “change driver” for the US election race.
On the foreign policy volatile discussions, Obama has scored big and that resonates to voters and tells much about his character in handling challenging world upheavals in the face of a single superpower player. In 2003 opposition to war posturing by the bush administration, many other events followed spearheaded by him and ultimately helping introduce a legislation in senate in 2007 on the eventual removal of all troops from Iraq. Obama looks at the immigration as cause by selfishness by affluent states neglecting poverty stricken nations causing an army of migrants to rich countries of which America is not spared.
If you can see clearly the Obama white house makes sense and it’s worth a gamble by the American voter. It will harmonize American foreign policy, increase investment in knowledge, making America more competitive and secure American children jobs in the continuously seamless global economyhttp://www.barackobama.com/2007/11/20/remarks_of_senator_barack_obam_34.php and reduce global tensions and make America a darling and relevant to many nations which will consolidate America’s mobilization capabilities which have waned so much. Who loves a dormant America? Can you fill in the answer?
As an Africa am very confident of a robust remaking of American economies with a whooping 50 billion dollar addition to the millennium challenge account plus an aggressive diplomacy to address core issues in Africa, a revistation to democracy.
God bless you all.
